Common questions
How much alcohol do I need for 50 guests?
For a four-hour party where most adults drink, plan on roughly 150-180 drinks total. That's about 14 bottles of wine, 60 beers and 2-3 bottles of spirits with mixers. Always round up, leftover bottles keep, and running dry at 9pm doesn't.
What's the standard rule for drinks per person?
Two drinks in the first hour, then one per hour after that, per drinking guest. It sounds high, but it accounts for half-finished glasses, refills and the people who drink more than average.
How many glasses in a bottle of wine?
Five standard 5oz pours per 750ml bottle. A 750ml bottle of spirits gives about 16 servings at 1.5oz each, which is why spirits go further than people expect.
How much ice do I need?
Around 1.5 lb per guest for a mild day, and 2 lb or more if it's hot or outdoors. Ice is the thing people most reliably underbuy, it goes into drinks, coolers and the bar tub at the same time.
Do I need non-alcoholic options?
Yes, and more than you'd think. Plan two soft drinks or waters per non-drinking guest, plus one per drinking guest, people alternate. This calculator includes both.
